Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education Program is designed for individuals who wish to work with children from birth through eight years of age (PreK-3). Completion of the program leads to Class B certification in the state of Alabama (a requirement for teaching in public schools) and a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. The program provides field experiences in infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms in NAEYC accredited early learning programs and K-3 public school settings. Individuals who successfully complete the program will be qualified to serve in roles related to the field of early childhood education and programming including childcare administration, childcare resource and referral, and teaching in the preschool, Head Start/Early Head Start and K-3 classroom setting.

 

After completing 50 hours of college credit, students will apply to become teacher candidates in the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Specific admission criteria are below.
